Almost perfect!
This magnificent PVC statue was released in August 2022 by McFarlane Toys which perfectly captures the likewise of not only Teth Adam himself aka Black Adam but is a mirror image of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who starred in the 2022 film of the same name.
While the film received mixed reviews and as a fan, the casting was perfect, however the story… well, it could have been better and don’t kill off Doctor Fate in his first big screen adventure. Nonetheless, there was plenty of merchandise to accompany the film Black Adam and today I’m checking out the Black Adam by Jim Lee 12” PVC Statue by McFarlane Toys for DC Direct.
About Black Adam
Hailed as the slave who became Champion, the mortal Teth-Adam was bestowed the powers of the gods, transforming into a fearsome superpowered being at the utterance of a single magic word: SHAZAM. He freed his people from the king of Kahndaq before grief over the loss of his family turned to cold fury, and he was entombed for his vengeful actions. Nearly 5,000 years later, Black Adam is freed from his slumber and finds himself in a world he does not recognize. Now he must try to see himself not as Kahndaq’s destroyer, but its saviour.

Black Adam by Jim Lee (DC Direct / McFarlane Toys) Statue Review
When this statue was originally released, it retailed for around $80AUD but since then, it has dropped considerably in price with some places like Amazon are selling it for almost half price and if you’re a Black Adam (film or comic), DC or Dwayne Johnson fan, now is the perfect time to add this highly detailed statue to your collection.
First things first… the Black Adam by Jim Lee by McFarlane toys is well packed by this company and features a packaged window for those that don’t want to take this out of the box, including an awesome illustration of Black Adam himself on the back. However if you’re a real collector, this 12″ or 30cm figure must be freed from the box…
The Unboxing!
As you can see from the images in this review… this figure / statue from McFarlane Toys is the spitting image of Black Adam from the film and the likeness of Dwayne Johnson is uncanny. Additionally the detail on the figure from the costume to the cape, the gold coloured arm bands or the lighting is perfect. The only assembly required is attaching the figure to the base and the cape. Given how heavy the statue is, it is well held in the base. There are some downsizes to this statue and that is due to the molding process. There are some noticeable join marks such as top of the statue, including some of the body itself but fortunately it doesn’t take too much away from how amazing this product is.
Final Thoughts?
The Black Adam by Jim Lee (DC Direct / McFarlane Toys) Statue is almost perfect and I love the detail and the size of this Black Adam figure. While there are some molding issues at play, this will be overlooked by most because it’s all about the final presentation and that’s where McFarlane succeeded.
