Summary: The Anker soundcore Work is impressive tech, however to maximise your experience, a paid membership is a must.

Impressive

The soundcore Work is a small AI Note Taker, dedicated voice recorder designed to turn conversations into structured notes and rather than trying to be an all‑in‑one gadget, it focuses on recording and transcribing which makes it feel like practical tech (which it is) as opposed to an overpriced novelty (which it’s not). Furthermore, the soundcore Work is very light, weighing just 10 grams and roughly the size of a large coin. It’s easy to wear throughout the day, whether clipped to a shirt, worn on a lanyard or stuck magnetically to the back of a phone.

The overall build quality of the soundcore Work feels sturdy and it even comes with an IPX4 rating, meaning it can handle some light splashes or rain. As for battery life, you get about eight hours of recording time on a single charge and the case provides enough extra power to reach 32 hours total. It has 8GB of onboard storage, which holds roughly 250 hours of audio, so you don’t need to clear it out constantly.

The charging case is simple and uses USB‑C, though it lacks wireless charging. Once you pair the recorder with the app, the process is straightforward: you press a button on the device to start and the audio syncs to your phone later.

Audio performance is solid for a device this size with its two microphones that pick-up voices clearly within a five‑metre radius, which would cover most meeting rooms. A useful physical feature is the haptic double‑tap. If you tap the device while recording, it marks that moment in the transcript, making it much easier to find important points later without listening to the whole file.

… and here is the highlight, the ability to summarise your entire recording and thanks to News Nation, we recorded a snippet of journalist Ross Coulthart discussing the CIA with former operative John Kiriakou.

Transcription is currently handled by OpenAI’s GPT‑4.1 and Soundcore claims 97% accuracy across more than 100 languages and in real‑world use it is reliable at identifying different speakers and stripping out filler pause words like “um” and “ah.” It offers about 20 summary templates, such as meeting minutes or to‑do lists. Processing is fast, usually taking about 90 seconds to finish a one‑hour recording and we had no issues in our testing phase whatsoever.

On the privacy front, files are encrypted during transfer and deleted from the cloud once the text is delivered to your phone. The app is easy enough to use, but there is one risk: recordings stay on the device until you export them. If you delete the app without backing up your files first, those recordings are gone for good, so just a word of warning.

In Australia, the Soundcore Work generally retails for $249 AUD, though it frequently appears at retailers like The Good Guys for $199 AUD. If you buy and activate one before 31 March 2026, you get a six‑month trial of the Pro plan. After that, the free “Starter” tier gives you 300 minutes of transcription per month. If you need more, the Pro plan (1,200 minutes) or an Unlimited plan requires a monthly subscription, which can push the total cost for the first year over $400.

Final Thoughts

The Soundcore Work is a practical choice for people who take a lot of meeting notes or conduct interviews. While you can do similar things with a phone app like Otter.ai, having a dedicated device saves your phone battery and usually results in better audio because of the placement. Its main hurdles are the ongoing subscription costs and the fact that its best tracking features are locked to the Apple ecosystem but as a dedicated tool for capturing information, it works exceptionally well.
