If you already own a robotic pool cleaner and want to take your pool maintenance to the next level, then the Aiper EcoSurfer S2 is an absolute must have. It fills a gap that traditional robotic cleaners simply can’t by providing continuous solar powered surface skimming and spoiler alert… which it does exceptionally well…

The Aiper EcoSurfer S2 removes surface debris such as leaves, insects, pollen and anything else that would normally float for a while before sinking to the bottom. It does this while running entirely on solar power and Aiper advertises 24/7 operation through its SolarSeeker technology with more than 35 hours of battery life on a single charge and the ability to move itself into sunlight to top up as needed.
With no cables (except the charging cable if needed), charging docks or manual intervention required, it quietly cruises around the pool throughout the day keeping the surface clean and reducing the workload for both you and your existing pool robot.
One of the standout features is Aiper’s DebrisGuard system, which works together with an Aquadynamic Baffle to prevent debris from escaping when the skimmer reverses, slows or stops. The intake closes automatically during these movements which ensures leaves, insects and other debris remain securely inside the unit rather than floating back out.
Unboxing and Setup
Aiper has done an excellent job with the packaging. The EcoSurfer S2 arrives extremely well protected, with every component cushioned and secured plus the whole experience feels more like unboxing a premium tech product than a pool accessory. Setup is very straightforward thanks to the large, easy to follow poster instructions. It is essentially a matter of unboxing the unit, giving it an initial charge, installing the app, pairing to your phone and then placing it in the pool. There are no complicated steps or fiddly parts to assemble.

Aiper also includes a small pool noodle bumper designed to sit around your skimmer box entry. This prevents the EcoSurfer S2 from getting stuck or caught on the edge of the skimmer opening, which is a thoughtful and genuinely useful addition. For our pool, we did not need this.
The EcoSurfer S2 features a large 4‑litre debris basket, which means fewer emptying trips and longer uninterrupted cleaning sessions. It comfortably handles leaves, gum nuts, insects and general pool debris without filling too quickly. The filtration system uses a 150‑micron fine mesh, allowing it to capture smaller particles such as fine dust and pollen that would normally slip through a coarser filter.
App Features and Control
The Aiper app is one of the highlights of the entire experience. Pairing via Bluetooth is quick and simple and once connected you have access to a range of genuinely useful features. You can set custom cleaning schedules, such as running daily from 7am to 10am, or use Eco Clean mode which operates for three hours, rests for three hours and then resumes automatically. The app also allows manual remote control so you can steer the skimmer into corners or areas where debris tends to collect and it provides clear battery and status monitoring.
The app also includes a detailed Options section with Clean Path Preferences, Device Information, Network Configuration, Firmware Update, Instructions for Use, Component Management and Log Upload. The presence of a firmware update option means the EcoSurfer S2 can receive improvements and refinements over time, which adds real long‑term value.

Day‑to‑Day Performance
In everyday use, the EcoSurfer S2 keeps the pool surface consistently clean. As it is solar powered it performs best in sunny conditions, although it stores enough energy to continue operating even when the weather is patchy. Navigation is supported by optical sensors that detect walls and obstacles so the EcoSurfer S2 can adjust its path smoothly without getting stuck. It runs quietly and efficiently and requires almost no attention beyond emptying the debris basket…

The Aiper EcoSurfer S2 is one of those rare pool gadgets that genuinely improves your pool care routine. If you already have a robotic cleaner for the floor and walls, this skimmer completes the system by taking care of the surface, which is the part most robots ignore. With its solar powered operation, smart app features, excellent debris retention, fine filtration, clever accessories and effortless setup, it is hard not to be impressed. It is a brilliant upgrade for any pool owner who wants cleaner water with less effort.
