A Song of Strength and Solidarity: Suellen Cusack for Autism Awareness Week

Authenticity has always been at the centre of Suellen Cusack’s work, shaped by her life, her family and the community around her. A proud regional Australian and mother of two, Suellen is also a committed advocate for autism awareness, using her voice to connect, uplift and create understanding. Her latest release is a moving rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, recorded with acclaimed Opera Australia baritone Nathan Lay. The track will be released during Autism Awareness Week 2026, running from 30 March to 6 April. More than a collaboration, the recording offers reassurance to the neurodiverse community and a message of care and solidarity for families walking similar paths to Suellen’s own. “This project means a great deal to me,” Suellen says. “It’s a way of letting people know that they are seen, valued and never alone.” The inspiration behind the recording is deeply personal. Suellen’s son Gabriel, who is level 3 autistic and currently non-speaking, has reshaped her understanding of courage, connection and unconditional love. Through him, she has witnessed the quiet strength that defines so many neurodiverse families, the resilience shown in everyday moments, the emotional depth, and the hope that carries them forward. This release is her way of honouring that experience and sharing a message of inclusion and understanding. “This is for Gabriel, and for every individual and family living this reality,” Suellen explains. “It speaks to hope, compassion and the importance of truly seeing one another.” The release also marks an important milestone in Suellen’s advocacy journey, coinciding with her recent appointment as an ambassador for Autism Queensland. Through this role, she is committed to amplifying lived experience, supporting families and contributing to meaningful conversations around autism awareness and acceptance. With two ARIA number one Classical Crossover albums and a growing national audience, Suellen Cusack continues to build a career that blends musical excellence with genuine purpose. You’ll Never Walk Alone stands as a powerful reminder that empathy, visibility and connection can begin with a single song.
