A Colourful New Chapter: Amazon Brings First-Ever Colour Kindle to Australia

Amazon today announced that Kindle Colorsoft, the first ever colour Kindle, is now available to Australian customers, bringing colour to Kindle without compromise. Kindle Colorsoft has everything customers love about Kindle – paper-like display, fast page turns, an adjustable warm light, and exceptional battery life – while adding a glare-free colour display that adds depth to book pages, yet is easy on the eyes.

With Kindle Colorsoft, customers can browse book covers in colour in the Kindle Library or store, see book photos and images in colour, or add highlights in yellow, orange, blue, and pink which can easily be filtered through later.  Plus, for customers who prefer to read on pages with a dark background, there is a Page Colour feature that inverts the black text and white backgrounds of the pages inside books.

“We’re delighted to bring Kindle Colorsoft to our customers in Australia,” said Jacqui Corbett, Amazon Devices Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand. “This is a significant milestone for Kindle locally, offering readers the perfect blend of our beloved e-reader experience with high-contrast colour capabilities. Whether you’re enjoying travel guides, children’s books, graphic novels, or cookbooks, or simply want to personalise your reading with colourful highlights, Kindle Colorsoft delivers this, giving an enhanced reading experience anywhere, anytime.”

Kindle customers around the world are reading more than ever, with over 129 billion pages read so far this year, and Australian readers are enthusiastically contributing to this trend. In Australia, Romance emerges as the most popular genre on Kindle Books, with reading habits revealing Sunday as the preferred day to dive into a good book. January stands as the peak reading month locally, with Australians consuming over 1.7 billion pages on their Kindle devices last January alone.

Colorsoft display – bringing rich, paper-like colour to Kindle

Everything about the new 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft has been meticulously designed to deliver rich, paper-like colour. It uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and higher contrast on both colour and black-and-white content. Its custom Colorsoft display includes a new light-guide with nitride LEDs that, when combined with Amazon’s custom algorithms, enhances colour and increases brightness without washing out details. Customers can zoom in on images without worrying about pixelation and can choose between standard or vibrant colour styles.

Kindle Colorsoft comes with up to 8 weeks of battery life on a single full charge via USB-C and is waterproof, making it perfect for reading in the bath, at the beach or anywhere in between, without worry.
