Clean bot!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has taken the world by storm. Even before ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or Gemini became household names, the robot vacuum market was rapidly shifting from basic automated dust-collectors to completely hands-free floor care systems. The Tapo RV50 Pro Omni is a perfect example of this evolution.

At its core, the RV50 Pro Omni is an all-in-one, AI-detecting robot vacuum and mop designed for users who want to completely remove themselves from the daily chore of floor maintenance with just the press of a button or a few taps on an app. Best of all, it comes with a relatively compact self-cleaning docking station that handles everything from washing and drying the mop pads to emptying the dustbin, greatly minimizing user input. As for ongoing maintenance? It basically comes down to ensuring the dock has water, emptying the dirty water tank, and occasionally replacing the dust bag—a small price to pay for true automation.

Features

  • All-in-One Self-Cleaning Station: Eliminates the need for manual maintenance after a cleanup, delivering a truly hands-free experience.

  • AI Obstacle Avoidance: The robot recognizes and avoids items like cables, slippers, and pet toys, ensuring efficient cleaning without getting stuck.

  • AI Stain Detection: Automatically detects dirt and spots, ensuring stubborn stains are tackled with extra care.

  • AI Cleaning Strategy: Features intelligent recognition of room layouts and furniture to customize cleaning solutions for your home.

  • Meticulous Mopping with an Extendable Robotic Arm: Provides superior edge coverage and cleanliness compared to conventional robot mops.

  • 15,000Pa Superb Suction: Effectively captures hair, dust, and debris from a variety of surfaces for exceptional cleanliness.

  • Anti-Hair Entanglement: Easily handles long hair and pet fur, eliminating the need for frequent brush maintenance.

Unboxing

From an aesthetic perspective, the RV50 Pro Omni is a modern piece of smart tech designed to blend seamlessly into your home or small office—in other words, it avoids looking like “geek chic.” With its matte black finish, semi-translucent water tanks, and a sleek silver cover that hides the dustbag and cleaning solution, it definitely channels a high-end homeware design.

The base station is remarkably compact compared to some of its competitors, measuring just 480mm high, 478mm deep, and 375mm wide. This is especially impressive given that the station handles dust emptying, mop washing, hot-air drying, and detergent dispensing. As a result, it fits neatly against walls or under sideboards without dominating your living space.

Inside the docking station houses a large 3-litre dustbag that effortlessly holds dander, fur, and debris for up to 60 days, ensuring internal pathways stay clog-free. Additionally, depending on how often you mop your floors, the clean water tank will easily last a full week in a 1,200-square-foot space.

Setup

Having reviewed quite a few Tapo products in the past—all of which featured a very easy setup process—I found the RV50 Pro Omni just as simple to get running. Before connecting the unit to your Wi-Fi, you simply unbox the components from the straightforward, clearly labeled packaging, which includes crisp instructions that eliminate any guesswork. Once unboxed, you download the Tapo app and pair the vacuum with your Wi-Fi network. If you are already inside the Tapo ecosystem, it’s basically just a matter of tapping “add” and letting the setup wizard populate the device into your existing interface.

Once installed, the app dashboard for the Tapo RV50 Pro Omni is a little more comprehensive than what you’d find for a standard security camera. It tracks a plethora of metrics, such as hardware consumable lifespans, room customization, and cleaning schedules. You can also order the “bot” remotely to clean or check its progress via the live map.

The app saves up to four distinct floor maps, and built-in cliff sensors prevent the robot from taking a tumble down the stairs. Once an upper floor is finished, it simply returns to its exact starting location and waits to be carried back down.

For smart home enthusiasts, the RV50 Pro Omni integrates flawlessly into existing ecosystems. It links with Alexa (which we tested), Google Home, and Apple Home, thanks to native Matter support. This means you can voice-command a clean right before walking out the door, or even use smartphone geofencing to auto-start a vacuum cycle the moment you leave the house.

While its navigation is highly impressive, it’s worth noting how it handles obstacles. Using a top-mounted 360-degree dToF LiDAR and a comprehensive laser sensor array, the vacuum bounces light to construct a highly accurate map on its very first run. This allows it to safely navigate around toys, furniture, and even lounging pets. However, despite front-bumper collision detection, it can still occasionally struggle with stray cables or exceptionally thin carpets, so it’s still advisable to ensure the floor is relatively clear before a run.

Additionally, its Intelligent Pad Management features two great systems. The first is Smart Carpet Detection: when the robot approaches a rug during a combo run (vacuuming and mopping), it instantly lifts its mop pads (by 0.47 inches) to prevent the carpet from getting damp. The second feature is Automated Pad Detachment, meaning that during a vacuum-only run, the Omni station automatically removes and leaves the mopping pads behind at the dock.

Vacuum Performance

Boasting 15,000Pa of suction power—nearly triple that of its predecessor, the RV30 Max Plus—the RV50 Pro Omni delivers highly efficient, single-pass cleaning on hard floors. If you have laminate, vinyl, or hybrid flooring, it shines brilliantly, clearing almost all dust and fine particulate matter, especially around the skirting boards and furniture edges. While it can occasionally flick a stray clump of dust away with its side brushes, its second pass always catches it.

On carpets, it easily lifts top-layer dust and pet hair. Even on Ultra Mode—its most powerful suction setting—it is surprisingly quiet compared to regular vacuues. In fact, I’ve vacuumed our girls’ rooms numerous times while they were fast asleep without waking them. Another highlight is the innovative cutting brush technology; thanks to a built-in blade, it shreds both human and pet hair to ensure you don’t have to deal with tangled rollers.

Mopping

Moving away from standard, static “dragging cloth” pads, the RV50 Pro Omni utilizes thick, dual-rotating mop pads that continuously scrub the floor with 8N of consistent downward pressure. It also features DeepEdge Adaptive Mopping, which ensures the roller pads actively extend outward past the robot’s frame to deep-clean corners and tightly hug kitchen cabinets. Meanwhile, the Smart Dirt Detection AI will deploy a second cleaning pass if it senses stubborn patches. With that said, you probably still want to tackle massive, thick spills manually rather than sending the robot into them.

Dock Maintenance: After a cleaning cycle, the dock washes the mop pads with 60°C hot water to eliminate bacteria, discards the wastewater into the dirty tank, and rapidly dries the pads with 50°C warm air. A specialized anti-odor capsule slots directly into the waste tank to ensure sitting dirty water doesn’t emit foul smells.

As for drawbacks, one minor annoyance is that you are required to use Tapo’s proprietary detergent. The cartridge is completely non-refillable, which locks you into their ecosystem. Also, the station’s auto-empty suction cycle is quite loud for a few seconds when it clears out the robot’s dustbin, though it’s nothing too major.

Final Thoughts

The Tapo RV50 Pro Omni retails for $1,799 AUD (as of July 2026) and offers users near-total automation for vacuuming and mopping. It pairs excellent cleaning technology and clever smart features with a highly comprehensive app. While you will still need a traditional vacuum and mop for deep-cleaning days, the RV50 Pro Omni perfectly reduces your daily reliance on them, keeping your home or small office consistently clean and tidy.

Highly recommended.
