Anker Prime Docking Station (14-in-1, Triple Display, DisplayLink) with DL7400 Review
Summary: Anker Prime Docking Station (14-in-1, Triple Display, DisplayLink) with DL7400 is almost the prime directive with this very close to definitive hub!
4.5
Prime directive
Anker has steadily refined its docking stations over the years, and the Prime 14‑in‑1 Docking Station feels like the next evolutionary step in powered docks, both in aesthetics and functionality. The design stands out immediately thanks to its smart display, which shows real‑time power delivery, data transfer activity, connected displays, resolutions, refresh rates and even fan performance. A tactile side dial lets you navigate the interface and doubles as the power button, and when idle the display can switch to a clock screensaver after syncing with your system time.
Despite its compact aluminium chassis, Anker manages to pack in 14 ports: three USB‑C ports (each supporting up to 100W fast charging and data transfer), a 10Gbps USB‑C upstream port with up to 140W laptop charging, three USB‑A ports, dual HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, 2.5Gb Ethernet, SD and microSD readers and a 3.5mm audio jack. The layout is versatile, with the front‑mounted USB ports adding to the overall convenience. Anker’s Dock Manager software provides useful extras such as firmware updates, diagnostics and a desktop view of the smart display’s information. The dock also includes built‑in power for a cleaner workspace, reducing cable clutter and keeping everything compact. Dimensions are 195 × 92 × 47 mm, and it weighs 834 g

With DisplayLink installed, the dock supports up to three external displays, offering 4K/60Hz on both HDMI ports and up to 8K/60Hz via DisplayPort. High‑refresh‑rate displays are also supported, and extended or mirrored modes work across both macOS and Windows. Setup is quick, though you will need the Anker app to maximise the product’s features, and the dock is universally compatible with USB‑C devices.
Performance‑wise, displays connect reliably, Ethernet speeds are excellent and charging is fast thanks to Anker’s PowerIQ4, which is particularly useful for smartphones. The SD and microSD slots are convenient, though limited to UHS‑I speeds at 104MB/s. Active cooling helps maintain performance under load, and the smart display provides a clear view of fan behaviour. Even with multiple devices connected, the dock remains impressively quiet.
One limitation is power distribution. Although the dock advertises three 100W USB‑C ports and 140W passthrough, the total power budget is only 160W. To achieve the full 140W laptop charging rate, your device must support PD 3.1, and you should avoid connecting more than one device to the front USB‑C ports. Under heavy load, the available power for additional devices drops quickly, making the triple 100W ports more theoretical than practical.
Final Thoughts
At $400 AUD, the Anker Prime 14‑in‑1 DisplayLink Docking Station offers a strong mix of design, functionality and multi‑display support. The smart display, 2.5Gb Ethernet and impressive port selection make it an excellent option for users who need a reliable multi‑monitor setup. However, the limited power budget and slower card readers hold it back from being a perfect all‑rounder.
