Rialto Distribution has announced extraordinary US box office results for DAVID, the animated musical epic from Angel Studios, ahead of its Australian theatrical release on January 15.

Opening in 3,118 cinemas across North America, DAVIDdebuted to a remarkable US$22 million opening weekend, securing the No.2 position at the domestic box office and setting a new opening weekend record for Angel Studios.

The result surpasses the studio’s previous high-water mark set by Sound of Freedom (US$19.6 million) and marks the largest opening ever for an independently released animated epic.

The film also delivered an impressive per-screen average of US$7,056, demonstrating strong demand well beyond niche audiences. While critics delivered solid reviews (70% on Rotten Tomatoes), audience response has been exceptional, with a 98% audience score and an “A” CinemaScore, underscoring the film’s broad family appeal.
