Destiny 2: Renegades, a Star Wars-Inspired Expansion, Launches Today
Today, Bungie launches Destiny 2: Renegades, the second expansion in the Year of Prophecy and an all-new experience inspired by Star Wars™ in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. As the next chapter in Destiny 2’s Fate Saga, Renegades merges Destiny 2’s distinct combat and storytelling with themes and elements drawn from the iconic sci-fi franchise. Guardians begin their journey as part of a crew of underdogs rising to challenge the Barant Imperium, a powerful Cabal faction, who Drifter suspects are connected to the Nine. Defying the Vanguard, players will join Drifter and forge alliances with new and returning characters while building influence and power in the criminal underworld, centered on the new social hub, Tharsis Outpost, on Mars.
Last week, the Destiny 2 team showcased new content coming in Renegades during a dedicated Developer Livestream, including the official Destiny 2: Renegades launch trailer and the ViDoc “Making of a Renegade,” which highlighted the creative process behind the expansion and Bungie’s collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
Renegades introduces the Lawless Frontier, a new activity designed for replayability and scalable challenge. Guardians will take on a range of high-risk, high-reward jobs, including Smuggling, Bounty Hunts, and Sabotage, across six new maps on Venus, Europa, and Mars, all inspired by iconic Star Wars locations. Through the new Notoriety system, players build reputation with three Syndicate factions:
- The Pikers: An anarchist and atheist biker gang of Eliksni seeking to build a society free from traditional ranks and hierarchy.
- Tharsis Reformation: A breakaway sect of sentient Vex, driven by a desire to experience personal identity outside the Vex collective.
- Totality Division: A rogue branch of the Barant Imperium Cabal, operating as a Syndicate on Mars and ruled by psions.
Lawless Frontier also introduces Invasion, an opt-in feature that allows other Guardians to enter the battlefield to disrupt progress in exchange for unique rewards.
Players will also unlock and upgrade Renegade Abilities throughout the campaign, which are powerful offensive, defensive, and support options that let Guardians bend the rules of combat within the Lawless Frontier.
Renegades also adds new weapons and gear, including the Praxic Blade, a kinetic Exotic Sword inspired by lightsabers, offering multiple customization paths that meaningfully impact gameplay. The expansion debuts a new weapon archetype, Blasters, featuring a heat-based firing and reload system that replaces traditional magazines. Additional new Exotics include the Solar Crossbow Heirloom, the Strand Machine Gun Service of Luzaku, and new Exotic armor for each class: the Deimosuffusion Warlock Helmet, Fortune’s Favor Hunter Legs, and the Praxic Vestment Titan Chest.
The new dungeon, Equilibrium, arrives on December 13, 2025, at 9:00AM PT for players who own Destiny 2: Renegades. Working alongside Praxic Order Warlock Aunor Mahal, players will infiltrate a Barant Imperium warship and hunt down acolytes of Dredgen Bael.
Fans can tune into the official Equilibrium Dungeon Race stream with hosts Evanf1997 and CBGray beginning at 6:00AM PT with a pre-show leading up to the race start at 9:00AM PT, live until the race is finished. Full eligibility details and rules can be found through Bungie’s official channels.
