Almost faultless

We live in a world of wireless devices, peripherals and accessories which is absolutely fantastic and battery performance is getting better and better… until they run out of power. So while you are enjoying a cord free typing experience, this luxury can quickly end when the typing stops. Cue in the Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard that feels like it belongs in the future but without the gimmicks as it potentially offers you unlimited power, provided there is light thanks to its LightCharge solar technology.

As you may have guessed, the defining feature is the LightCharge solar technology which allows it to draw power not only from sunlight but also from artificial indoor lighting. In practice, this means you never really think about charging it as it simply stays powered, whether you’re working by a window or under a desk lamp. For anyone tired of swapping batteries or juggling charging cables, this is a technological godsend and amazingly the keyboards boast up to 4-months of battery life in complete darkness, so yes… it can survive a zombie apocalypse!

It also supports easy switch (connect up to 3 multi-OS devices) plus the Logi Options+ App that allows for device customisation, app specific profiles and smart management. It provides a full-size layout with a number pad, including customisable action keys, shortcuts and an AI launch key. Add in a wireless range of up to 10 metres plus up to four months battery life in complete darkness and the Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard is an impressive cordless keyboard.

Unboxing

Setup is straightforward and connectivity is reliable as it pairs via Bluetooth to multiple devices and allows you to switch between them effortlessly, which is particularly useful if you move between a laptop, tablet and phone throughout the day. Once I unboxed the keyboard, my notebook immediately detected the keyboard via Bluetooth and I was typing in no time.

With that said, typing on the K980 is a pleasant experience as the low-profile keys are quiet and responsive, with a feel that’s closer to a premium laptop than a traditional desktop keyboard. The design is slim and elegant yet still offers a full layout including a numeric keypad, which makes it practical for both work and study, so no compromise at all. Although it’s not designed for gaming as it lacks ultra-low latency, it’s still more than capable for productivity and everyday use with no lag whatsoever. The only things missing is that it doesn’t offer backlighting, which could be a drawback for those who often work in dim environments and also the angle is fixed, so if you prefer adjustable tilt, you may find it limiting.

At $179.95 in Australia, it’s positioned as a premium keyboard, but the long-term value is clear, no batteries to replace, no cables to clutter your desk and a lifespan that could easily outlast cheaper alternatives. Furthermore, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is an impressive blend of practicality, comfort and sustainability that is perfect for those looking for a reliable cordless keyboard with no need for charging!
