2021’s Top Smartphones for Seniors

OPPO Australia Rounds Up the Best Handsets for Seniors Following Get Online Week

Last week Australia saw Get Online Week, a digital inclusion campaign organised by Good Things Foundation. Get Online Week sees thousands of local events take place each year hosted by community organisations, giving everyone the chance to find the support they need to improve their digital skills and get motivated to learn more.

To help bridge the digital divide, OPPO Australia was proud to partner with BasicTech to host a tech training session for Gold Coast based seniors. OPPO donated handsets which were used as both raffle prizes and also demonstration devices, showing attendees how to make video calls, use Google Assistant, Google Lens and navigate the online world in a fun and safe environment. OPPO also provided staffing support and hosted breakout sessions for 45 attendees at last week’s event held at Southport Sharks on the Gold Coast.

The 2021 Australian Digital Inclusion Index (ADII) has revealed those over the age of 75 as being the most at risk of being digitally excluded.  The 75+ subgroup scored the lowest in the 2021 ADII with an average ADII score of 47.7, which is 23.6 points below the national average. Those aged 65 – 74 scored marginally higher at 57.3.

Although when comparing year over year, the index reveals that the digital inclusion of senior Australians is improving. Between 2020 and 2021, the total Index scores of 65-74-year-olds increased by 3.9 points, and 75+ year-olds increased by 6.1 points.

“OPPO was thrilled to be involved in Get Online Week and be actively participating in helping to bridge the digital divide. This is particularly important for our seniors in the community who may not have the digital skills to stay connected in a pandemic world of video calls and QR codes,” said OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran.

“At OPPO we have a large focus on making innovative technology accessible to all and as a result we have a wide range of devices on the market that are suited to a variety of different wants and needs.

“Our A Series devices in particular are a popular choice for Australian seniors. All our smartphones not only come with the charger in the box but also a protective case and a screen protector already on the screen. This commitment to addressing the needs of many is why we believe OPPO was awarded the Canstar Blue Award for ‘Most Satisfied Smartphones Customers’ three years in a row and also named WhistleOut’s Phone Manufacturer of the Year this year for the third year running,” added Tran.
