Roccat Renga Studio Grade Over-Ear Stereo Gaming Headset Review
Summary: The Roccat Renga is an affordable headset suited for both PC and PS4 usage... although the cable is a tad long for console use!
Easy to set up and use, the Renga is a headset from Roccat will suit gamers who want decent quality whilst on a budget. First look is at the box itself. The Renga is an attractive boxed product with high quality images on a slick matte black box. Upon opening the box, I was surprised to see nothing in the way of documentation or instructions, simply the headset with an adapter for the PS4.
The headset is a great fit and is super comfortable with airflow to prevent heat build-up over long periods of time. The headset is adjustable to suit most head sizes with one of the longest cable lengths I’ve seen for some time, making it perfect for under desk computers. It clocks in at 2.5 metres! Adversely, the length is a little weird and in the way when you use it on the PS4, you cannot help but have a great deal of cable spooled around you.
Furthermore, the Renga is set up for PC use primarily. An included adapter allows for both headphones and mic to be connected into your PS4 controller. The connections on the adapter are solid and held up to vigorous use without the headset coming away from it.

Now onto the important part, the sound. The Renga does a brilliant job of sounding fantastic. The bass is rich and the sound is immersive, essential when using the Renga for gaming. It is always an interesting experience going from playing a game with open surround sound to the intimacy of a headset, but the Renga really succeeded in bringing the game world to life. There were a couple of moments that you could see where the bass didn’t quite match the thump of a more advanced system, but for the most part it does not disappoint in terms of clarity.
The Renga is equipped of course with a microphone with swivel to get it out of the way when you don’t need it. When in-game and chatting with a friend or team, the voice of your mates comes through a bit louder than the action, making it easier for you to focus on the chat without the distraction of the background sound overwhelming what you were doing. Perfect for planning strategies. The headset also has a control toggle on the cable allowing control of volume and mic with options to mute the sound as you see fit.
All things said and done, the Renga is great value and quality. It is really well put together and will hold up to even the most arduous use. Whilst the cable length pretty much undoes any mobile application you might put it to, the sound quality is worth using it outside of gaming, with music also sounding pretty sweet through the Renga as well. Audiophiles will notice a little something lacking in pitch and treble, but it will really depend on what you are playing at the time.
For people wanting more than a base experience, this is certainly a headset worth getting. It sounds great and is more than comfortable wearing even over a long period of time. The adapter for the cable allows the use with the PS4, and the overall sound result is an immersive experience to be enjoyed.
