The Movies Stunts & Effects Expansion Pack

This series is good fun. Why? Whilst you can do a lot, it’s relatively simple in it’s focus and there is nothing to confuse or distract players from the core gameplay itself. The premise behind the game is simple enough, it allows players to manage their stunt teams and effects wizards in the gameworld to make even better movies.

Once again the ease of play is fantastic and once installed (you need The Movies) to play is a simple matter of choosing to just jump into a game. The level of management involved in keeping your staff and actors happy if by micromanaging them to an insane degree in order to make sure they all keep doing exactly as you want them to. It’s a fun process but can get a bit tedious for those who just want to get in and sort of let the game run itself to an extent.

One of the things that I was hoping for in this game was a menu or something that would allow you to check quickly on the status of an individual character, but no. You still have to hover over them to bring up images to see what all your little people wanted. It does eventually drive you crazy as even the most minute things have to be managed.

There are many good improvements to the actual core gameplay that involve enhancements to the way that you can get scenes ready for filming and keeping the set consistent with the props that you place in it. This was a good move and greatly enhances the way that you will play the game as in previous versions, however good, you still wondered why bother making a good set when you lose it the first time you close down the game.

Of course this review would not make sense if I was not to mention the stunts that you can do with this game. There is a really neat control system that will allow all your big budget dreams to come true, filming from multiple angles and making sure that everything is just perfect. I found that I spent hours just tweaking jumps and angles that things happened on, like cars hurling through the air, explosions and the like. It’s a ton of fun and I can’t wait to see what they have planned next.

Innovative and fun gameplay is here folks, enjoy! Who knows, maybe next time sense will prevail and some of these hi strung Hollywood types will actually get some managers to look after them!
