Modern Sniper

This awesome DVD brings to life the little known life of snipers in the US military. Ranging across the various defence forces from Army, Marines, Coastguard and Navy. I simply was enthralled the entire time this series played as we got to see parts of their training, tactics, weapons and various simulations undertaken by the sniper instructors themselves. Almost every couple of minutes there was another "gasp" moment where I had to rewind to see if I had really just watched what I thought I had seen. Utterly amazing.

The documentary is exceedingly well presented with evidence being present that it was originally produced for television as there is dialogue for ad breaks. It is easy to understand all the techniques and training shown which for the most part is explained to the viewer by real life snipers and their instructors which added a far greater sense of realism to the footage.

Surprisingly, the training differs greatly from force to force with the needs of the military determining the type of training that the sniper receives. Course lengths differ greatly and this is something that makes the series even more interesting. The marine final testing in particular was very detailed, and highlighted just how hard a job being a sniper must be even with the high tech equipment they have and the way the weapons and ammo they use has evolved.

This is a great DVD and one that I would recommend you watch if you have an interest in this sort of thing. It is informative and utterly interesting. You can tell some things have not been show on the disc but considering the intensity of training, it is understandable that some elements would be too highly classified to appear on a dvd of this nature.

Well worth watching.
