Dr Karl has a knack of making science, interesting. This medical doctor, engineer, physicist, mathematician and celebrity has the ability of transforming the scientific into laymen talk but makes it extremely fun in the process. He is like a modern day alchemist but considerably funnier.

His latest book which is also a play on words of a completely different and smutty novel is 50 Shadows of Grey Matter which answers some big questions like why is the sky blue, what happens to rubber dust from tyres, the dangers of geo-tagging or how black holes helped create WiFi. This book is filled with knowledge!

This book is broken down into 41 bite sized chapters, each highlighting a certain category with Dr Karl breaking down the scientific mumbo jumbo and giving the reader easily digestible theories and some answers to some of the world's great questions and oddities from around the world.

Apart from the classic Dr Karl humour and explanations, what I enjoyed about 50 Shades of Grey Matter was how well the book read. My brain polished this book off in just two nights and while I was entertained, amazed and wooed by Dr Karl, I actually learnt quite a bit from his must have book.

Now I know that if my walking speed is more than 5 kilometres an hour, the Grim Reaper will not be able to catch me or if I drink a glass of milk after my gym sessions, this will help me add muscle bulk and if I continue this into old age, I'll be dancing circles around Death.

There's also some very weird and bizarre things in the book such as a grossly obese Scotsman fasting for over one year in order to lose 125 kilograms or how bugs actually use the skies to move around or even the colour of the universe which unfortunately is not as bright as one of Dr. Karl's shirts.

Final Thoughts?

In the end, 50 Shades of Grey Matter is a though provoking book that answers some of life's most important questions and some not so important. If you want some brain food or just want to know facts to impress your friends and colleagues at work, than this is the book for you.

Dr Karl... you've once again done it again! Highly Recommended!
