Pinocchio 70th Anniversary

One of Disney’s classic animation movies arrives on Blu-ray to celebrate its 70th Anniversary. For those unaware of the story of Pinocchio, it revolves around a wooden puppet who was created by master woodworker Geppetto who always wanted a boy of his own.

Then one night, Pinocchio is visited by a fairy who grants this little inanimate object his wish, of becoming alive. Both Pinocchio and Geppetto are overjoyed by the outcome and Geppetto sends his new wooden boy to school. Unfortunately Pinocchio is sold to the nefarious puppet master Stromboli who wishes to make some quick money from this wooden wonder boy.

Thankfully for our hero, he is freed by the fairy and meets his conscience, Jiminy Cricket who attempts to point Pinocchio in the right direction. Unfortunately he is caught again by the puppet master called Honest John who tricks our hero into going to Pleasure Island and if he stays there long enough, he will be turned into a donkey.

Things go from bad to worse for Pinocchio as he finally escapes and attempts to go home, where he finds out that his father Geppetto has left in search of him, only to be trapped in the bowels of a whale. As you can see, Pinocchio is a classic Disney tale that has strong ties to the fairy tales of yesterday which makes this such a great family movie. At times, the movie is quite dark in some places, in relation to content.

Pinocchio  contains all the elements of action, adventure, drama and comedy and even for a movie of its age, it actually dates quite well. The film has also received a blu-ray face-lift with the entire presentation almost looking like it was filmed yesterday with vibrant colours, sharp images plus high definition sound. Match that with a plethora of special features from commentary, documentaries and music videos and Pinocchio on Blu-ray is a first class presentation from start to finish.

A must have disc for fans of Disney or the classic tale of Pinocchio!
