Fifa '06 (Fifa 2006)

EA Sports most hallowed soccer game returns and improves an already perfect franchise with more responsive controls with the latest soccer statistics from 2005 that include over 21 leagues and 10,000 world class and real-life players. Probably one of the biggest competitors for EA in the sports gaming world is Pro Evo that although not as graphically impressive as Fifa 2005 had one of the best gameplay engines of all soccer titles. EA have listened to the fans and now offer gamers a choice of different control schemes (one based as Pro Evo) to ensure that Fifa 2006 still remains the most definitive soccer series.

The control system of Fifa '06 has been vastly improved since we reviewed the previous title in 2004 and the game now supports a wide gamut of new gameplay features that almost makes this title the most realistic soccer simulation out there. It should also be noted that although this new control system is easy to master, some aspects of these new controls are a lot more forgiving then previous instalments and when you pull off those one touch shots off for the first time, it may seem like a miracle but as you continue to play, you'll soon find out that the game is sometimes rather forgiving. However, the analogue stick now allows you to perform a variety of soccer tricks without memorising difficult or ridiculous combinations. A great move by EA!

The presentation of EA Sports is like a Hollywood blockbuster and as soon as you put the disc in, you know that you are in for a treat. The developers have also added little touches in the game such as players are now limited by their weight, which prevents heavier players from running past lighter players. The artificial intelligence of the players have also been upgraded that now play with almost human precision. The upgraded Manager mode now lets you control club budgets, manage coaching staff, choose formations and tactics and participate in a revised transfer market system for those hardcore sport manager fans.

Graphically Fifa '06 is a pure masterpiece that once again showcases the XBox gaming console and features superbly designed gaming environments from realistic stadiums to perfectly animated players that move with grace and realism. Match that with realistic texture details from the clothes that players wear or the realistic grass blades and add a blend of realistic lighting and once again EA have proven themselves in the graphics department.

As with the graphics, the audio commentary of Fifa '06 flawlessly blends with the gameplay and nothing sounds too forced or contrived. Apart from the kick @#%! soundtrack of Fifa '06, another staple feature of EA Sports, the game also contains all the screams, sounds and everything else you would hear at a world soccer match. With that said, it should also be noted that the crowd are not a monotonous mob but they actually change their shouts and jeer as the match progresses.

In conclusion, Fifa '06 is a great soccer game that features a 15 season Manager Mode, a FIFA Lounge, a Tournament Mode, Tournament Creation, Xbox Live Play, and Team Management and also a plethora of other special features that I'm sure all soccer fans will simply adore. With great graphics, a highly improved gameplay engine and some of the best damn gameplay of this side of an Italian soccer team, Fifa '06 is a must have!
