Mercury Meltdown
You know what? This is a
neat little game! The second in the series on the PSP, Meltdown has been
streamlined from the first in order to create a game that is a lot
easier to get into than the first title and also a hell of a lot easier
to control.
To describe the game is simple enough; you control a
blob of mercury and have to get it through a series of ledges and what
not to avoid it plummeting off the game world. To compare it to another
title you would most likely pick Super Monkey Ball in terms of actual
feel of the game, however it’s truly a title that stands up by itself.
A cheerful looking title, it’s still going to prove
to be quite a challenge for gamers with the sheer amount of options you
have in getting through a puzzle. You can tilt the puzzle to get past
obstacles, control different bits of the mercury and go insane over a
massive 160 puzzles, along with a variety of party games that you can
play. There is also the offer of downloadable content promised though
that part of the title was not tested out as getting through the levels
that are on the disc will have you playing forever as it is!
Multiplayer is also supported on this title, allowing
you to go head to head against opponents and actually get in the way of
what they are doing. Makes for a great laugh, especially when you get in
the way of them when they are almost finished, right Andrew?
Colour abounds on the title, showing an improvement
over the finish of the first game and has a cartoony effect that really
works well without compromising depth perception or any other graphical
feature that you would need in order to progress.
To be honest with you, I don’t have a single
complaint about this title. Every element of it worked well and was fun.
The sheer amount of levels means great value for money and the fact that
the developers have made genuine improvements over the accessibility of
the game, graphics and framerate make it a winner in my books.
If you like your puzzle/platform type games then you
could do a hell of a lot worse than trying this game on for size as I
reckon most gamers are going to love it.
