Colosseum: Road to Freedom

Slavery to freedom is the name of the game in this hack and slash. You take a piece of history, twist it a bit and then insert the gamer into the brutality of the Roman Colosseum.

There actually isn’t too much to make of this game, you get to bash other combatants and beasts and also get some powerups to give you a greater advantage over the other contestants who also wish to gouge out a piece of you in order to claw their way through the rankings.

The game gives you the chance to train your character up and you get to travel a little bit in order to do so. The main fights take place in the arena and it’s where the smack down happens, which surprisingly enough doesn’t get too boring despite the repetitive nature of it all.

Graphically the title is pretty good lucky with some good textures built into the title. The tigers look fantastic and there are some nice realistic touches built in. Make sure that you don’t weigh your character down too much as weight will make a huge difference to the way that they will move around the arena so don’t make your guy a sitting duck!

Other enhancements during the game involve the ability to find new weapons either on the field or armory so make sure you keep an eye out for those. The movement in the game is a little jilted and stiff so be sure that you are happy to work with that. Another gripe is that you are meant to be able to battle multiple adversaries at the same time. I’ve got news for you: it doesn’t always work.

All things said and done, I liked this game despite it’s shortcomings. I am a bit of a sucker for this sort of thing so I would say to the rest of you that it might even be worth renting first.

BONZAI!
