The Mark

With so many shooters on the market, gamers are expecting more and more of their games and with the advances in technology we are being treated to some great games. Just being a shooter doesn’t really cut it anymore and unfortunately The Mark doesn’t seem to aspire to be more than a run of the mill shooter with a stack of clichés and below average plotlines.

Even though the screens look promising in the title, The Mark really doesn’t seem to rise above simply running around and shooting at the bad guys who don’t seem to have much in the way of brains. Whilst there is a storyline, it’s basically bad guys are gonna blow up London and you (playing the roles of two characters) must work together to stop them.

The characters themselves are your run of the mill elite operatives and do have their own unique abilities that help you get through the game. Though this doesn’t really make much difference in the game as the bad guys don’t really make it that hard to get rid of them by either not reacting to attacks or simply just staying in the open whilst there are a heaps of obstacles that can be hidden behind.

Linear gameplay is the name of the game here with just running from one place to the next blasting away merrily at the sometimes ridiculously costumed enemies running around with dynamite strapped to their bodies. On a Serious Sam title, sure, I am expecting that, but on a game that is trying to be serious, that is just silly. They are not suicide operatives, the developers just thought it was a great idea to whack some explosives onto people who don’t want to die.

I simply could not get into this game. It played ordinary, looked ordinary and seriously did not provide us with any innovation or real reason to recommend this title. I would only suggest this one if you have NOTHING else to play and your Sega Mega Drive is broken.
