Shadow Grounds

This is a neat game that despite having had a number of similarities with other games and movies, still manages to prove to be entertaining in its own right. Travelling through the galaxy to hotspots, it's your job to stop the impending invasion of alien bad guys before it is too late for the lovely planet Earth.

Shadowgrounds delivers a pretty immersive experience with a combination of good graphics and very solid sound work through out the title. Everything from character speech through to ingame environmental sound effects works very well to give you the impression that you are in a thriving world arena and that your actions in the game actually do matter.

Providing a satisfying play experience, Shadowgrounds has you squaring off against a good number of beasties that have been well realised. Your weaponry is varied and a lot of fun to use, though like most games of this nature, you'll find one or two that you prefer and pretty much stick to them during the game and that will work just fine.

In an interesting move, you are given 5 lives per level and if you happen to snuff it during the game, you will simply respawn near a point that you died. When creatures die around you, they will often drop bits and pieces that help you through the game and upgrade weapons etc. Good of them to help out I say! All weapons are pretty robust and have great alt fire mechanisms built in. These all combine to keep the gameplay varied by as mentioned you will find favourites.

There are a number of nice touches to the gameplay that should see you completing this one in your bid to keep the earth safe. The respawn factor does get a bit tiresome, especially if you die 5 times in the level and have to start it over. I think that might be enough for some gamers to walk away whilst there is still time.

This is a game that I enjoyed, however it could be that you might want to rent it first before committing the cash. See what you think and let us know!
