Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Emily Collins, I grew up on the south coast of NSW, a town
called Ulladulla. I began dancing when i was 10 and starting circus at
17. I am now living in Melbourne, and continuing my love for circus and
dance. I am studying full time and about to graduate from the National
Institute of Circus Arts with a bachelor of circus arts, and a major in
Aerial and ground contortion (basically being bendy). I am also spending
my spare time dancing as a company member of "Yellowwheel" contemporary
dance company, and part-time modelling. I began modelling in 2011 when I
graduated from Melbourne's Tanya Powell modelling course/agency with a
diploma. Since them I have been doing as much freelance work as i can
fit around all my other engagements.
What made you get into modelling?
I have always wanted to get into modelling, and it fits so nicely
alongside what I already do. I love performing and being in front of a
camera so it seemed like a good idea to give it a try, and from the
first shoot I did, I knew I definitely wanted to continue.
What do you enjoy about modelling?
I love the experience of working with different photographers, I always
learn so much from each shoot. I also really love catwalk; unfortunately
I don't get much work doing that because I'm just too short (less than
an inch), but its a great opportunity to show off what you've got and
What about nude modelling?
I'm only starting to get into that side of modelling. Its sometimes
difficult to gauge what is legitimate and what is not, as this is
unfortunately the main area of modelling that can lead to situations
where models can be taken advantage of. It takes a lot of confidence to
do these types of shoots and I am always very specific with the
photographers as to what I am and am not prepared to do.
Worst part of modelling?
This thankfully has only happened once, but I'm sure it will happen
again over my career. Having to argue with photographers about what is
expected/what I am prepared to do (especially with nude modelling). I
will never compromise my standards, but sometimes they like to push
certain boundaries that have been clearly outlined. I find it
Do you have any tattoos? If so where and what of?
I don't at the moment, however I have been contemplating one for a
while, just haven't found the perfect design yet.
What's your best asset?
Physically? I think my back; its bendy, its strong and has pretty good
muscle definition (from what I have been told) haha
My height, if only I was an inch taller! So many more opportunities with
modelling would arise
What are three technological things you cannot live without?
My Iphone, Cloud Nine hair straightener (not sure which is more
important) and my Cannon DSLR
How do you relax?
I don't generally get that much time to relax, but I recently went to
Bali to unwind. Massages, beach and Cocktails was a pretty good way to
go (I didn't want to come back)
Top three things that annoy you?
The fact that common sense doesn't seem so common; cold weather- makes
training contortion really unpleasant; and injuries.
Top three things that make you happy?
Summer, performing and my cat "Ascari"
What is your favourite video game?
I'm a big Halo fan, especially ODST
If you could go back in time and visit yourself at age 10, what would
Stick with gymnastics!
On the other hand, if you could go into the future and visit yourself
at 80, what would you ask?
This is a hard one, maybe am I happy with what I have achieved?
Married, relationship or Single?
What do you look for in a guy?
I like a guy that can make me smile and laugh, and just be silly
with. I love it when guys can dance, or aren't afraid to try, and I love
a guy that is strong enough to lift me/throw me around (do 'adagio' or
partner balancing) - I guess that's a circus thing.
What is your favourite movie?
It would have to be the lion king, it has always been my favourite
and I don't think that will ever change.
I have such a wide variety of taste in music, and it changes depending
on my mood. I am currently in a Offspring and Queen mood
Fruit covered in chocolate, especially strawberries
I have two: Peacock blue and burgundy
Favourite TV Show?
At the moment it would have to be game of thrones, I'm definitely hooked
Owls, I wish I could own one
Your motto for life?
Hakuna Matata :)
Do you have a fan site like twitter, myspace or facebook?
I do, I have a facebook artist page:
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more circus, dance and modelling. I would love to travel
overseas with my work, expand on my skills, gain more great experiences
and perform as much as possible
Ten words or less for your fans?
You'll never succeed if you don't try
