The Aunty Jack Show (First Series plus Pilot)

Aunty Jack was unleashed upon the world in the 1972 and it’s off kilter humour caught much of the country unawares. Picture it: make up, moustache, single golden boxing glove, frumpy dress and attire. Played by Grahame Bond, Aunty Jack was a character who would like to punch on but cringe at intimate talk.

The disc is packed with extras and the history of the show and the main players in it have to be read about to be believed. There are all seven episodes of the first series included on this disc plus the pilot that not many people might have seen. Aunty Jack has not been seen on the small screen for a very long time so many of the fans might not have seen the pilot as it’s quite often what people do miss when a new series is released. Fortunately now, they regularly do encores of pilot shows.

Episodes included are:

Pilot, Radio, War, Kulture, Anonymous, Family, Sex and Horror

I think this series will prove to be popular, but be aware that some of the humour is cringe worthy. The transfer is pretty crappy at times but purely because it was the way that it was filmed in the first place, it’s not an error of the transfer. The audio is passable as well.

Give Aunty Jack a try and revisit a different time in Australian comedy. These folks really changed the way that Australians presented comedy and the show broke new ground and offended many people for that time. See what you think.

Extras:

Audio Commentary-Grahame Bond And Maurice Murphy - Episode 'Kulture'
Seamless Branching-Golden Glove Feature-Special Colour Segments
Featurette-The History Of Aunty Jack
