Showgirls

Nomi Malone has what it takes to make it as a Las Vegas showgirl - what she doesn't have is a way in. To survive, she accepts the only job available: lap dancing in a seedy club. And when she meets Cristal, Vegas' reigning showgirl, Nomi wants everything she has - including her boyfriend. And as Nomi dives deeper into the world she so desperately desires, a rivalry between the two women heats up. The battle for the spotlight becomes so fiercely competitive that it drives Nomi to desperate lengths - and devious heights - for fame in Sin City.

Those who wish to see a guilt free behind the scenes look at the world of lap dancing and showgirls should best look elsewhere. Director Paul Verhoeven starts this movie with a behind the scenes look at dancing in Sin City. The beautiful Elizabeth Berkeley stars at Cristal who tries to work who way up the dancing food chain from baring all to the sleazy men of Sin City. Unfortunately for Cristal, the price of fame comes at a price that sees the violent attack on her closest friend and also the reinforcement of the old stereotype that you must climb over your friends and colleagues to reach the top.

Presented in 16:9 widescreen with Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, this 1995 movie surprising stands up well today. No special features are included in this release of the movie and unfortunately for Elizabeth Berkeley, this movie kind of destroyed the actress as it stereotyped her future roles.
