Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior

With the latest Mummy movie coming out of the franchise, what better time to release a spin-off sequel or "prequel" than now and "The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior" is that movie.

Originally the Scorpion King starred Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the Scorpion King, however this current incarnation is as far away as possible to the original title and even the Mummy series.

This direct to DVD prequel features all the clichés of action movies of this genre from battles to romance and a touch of comedy. Michael Copon stars as Mathayus who has vowed revenge on Sargon (Randy Couture) who is responsible for his father's and brother's death.

In order to defeat this powerhouse, Mathayus must travel to the underworld to find the mythical Sword of Damocles. Fortunately for our young hero, he is joined by Greek poet Aristophanes (Simon Quarterman) and the beautiful Layla (Karen David) who provides the love interest for Mathayus.

Unfortunately the movie fails to deliver the professionalism of the first movie as it seems too "cheap" with its locales that revolve too much around studio sets and poor CGI animation.

However for those who enjoy the 1980's inspired Fantasy movies, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior should be right up their alley with over the toping acting, an almost sometimes laughable story but it still contains some good old fashioned action and some titillation from the female stars.
