Scales of Justice

For some, this show was almost like jumping into a divvy van with the cops as they went about their business. Whatever your take on Scales of Justice might have been when it originally aired in the 80’s, one has to admit that it had a lot of courage to feature the stories that it did during it’s time.

Showing the underside of the justice and legal system at it’s best and worst, Scales of Justice brought a harsh realism to the small screen that had not been seen a great deal by the average Australian viewer. Originally aired as a mini series, it is now a 2 disc DVD set that really grips you from the start through to the very finish.

The video on the title is in pretty good nick and there was not too much to quibble about. It’s always great to find that shows like this have actually been archived in the first place and you tend to worry about the quality of the print after that. What we are treated to is a show that does allow us to get a feel for it’s age and then promptly forgive it for any technical probs that arise as they are few and far between.

There are three acts or shows on this disc. You can enjoy them as self contained stories. They are:

Act One The Job
Act Two The Game
Act Three The Numbers

Be aware that this show does contain some pretty harsh moments but they are steeped with a degree of realism that excuses it.

Corruption, Loyalty, Conflict – Scales of Justice has them all. Make sure you check it out!
