Patience

A Gilbert and Sullivan show, Patience tells the comedic tale of love and poetry starring the impecable Anthony Warlow. A romantic comedy told through Opera, Patience is a delight to view and not at all testing on those who might not normally enjoy this sort of endeavour.

The romantic interest of the show is Patience herself, a milkmaid who cannot  see what is so special about the local poet Bunthorne, whilst the rest of the ladies swoon when the name is mentioned. Bunthorne wants to marry Patience and thus everything gets confused and mixed up when the Poet Archibald appears on the scene and also falls for her.

The parts are all really well worked out and the singers are spectacular with the script giving them the chance to express a very good vocal range with some good backup from the pit.

I have to say this on all the Opera reviews I do. I am not an expert on the form, I can merely report on what I see and what I enjoy. Patience is a fun romp through a romantic comedy that hits the mark exactly. Warlow is as always commanding and a real credit to the cast and crew. The audio and video of the DVD are in great shape and overall the disc is a lot of fun.

Enjoy!
