Passengers

TPassengers is the latest supernatural thriller to arrive on DVD which stars the delightful Anne Hathaway as Claire Summers, a counsellor who has been assigned to a group of passengers who survived a horrific aeroplane accident. Without spoiling the movie, Claire needs to assist these people come to terms with their grief and the experience of the crash, however when a member of the airline is seen impeding her efforts, it seems that this crash is more than just an accident.

The movie starts quite innocently and at times is rather tedious, however when the true nature of the flight is discovered, the movie becomes quite engaging and emotional. If you highlight the following text, this will unravel some of the movies spoilers. <Spoilers> I initially lost interest in this movie from the start, however when the supernatural aspects begin, the movie did pick up as Claire is actually counselling the dead from this flight. The movie is reminiscent of Nicole Kidman’s The Others and once you discover that the survivors are dead, the movie does become a tad predictable, however it did pull at your emotional drawstrings. <Spoilers>

Apart from the supernatural aspect of the movie, there is also a forced relationship between Claire and one of her clients Eric (Patrick Wilson) who seems to be hiding his fillings about the crash and what actually happened. To compound the situation, the survivors bicker amongst themselves of how the crash occurred and to make matters worse, there is a strange man following them and when the survivors start to go missing, the strangeness of this tale just begins.

The movie also stars Andre Braugher, Dianne Wiest and David Morse whom seem a little lost in this plot that actually makes sense towards the end of the movie. Although the Passengers won’t win any awards for excellence, it was an interesting movie that tried a little too hard and became quite predictable towards the end which is a shame as it started slow, got interesting and then ended with predictability and clichés.
