Mongul

Mongul is the first movie in a three part trilogy which is set in 12th century Mongolia and begins with Temudjin, a young boy is who taken by his father and leader of his clan to the Merkit tribe where he plans to marry his son in order to strengthen both clans.

As fate intervenes, Temudjin meets another girl on his journey named Borte whom he falls in love with and plans to marry her, rather than his intended bride. To compound the situation for Temudjin, his father is murdered by Targutai who plans to govern the tribe.

When Temudjin comes of age, he keeps his promise to marry Borte, however once again fate intervenes as she is kidnapped by the Merkits. With no support, he seeks the aid of his blood brother Jamukha as they plan a daring attack in order to liberate Temudjin’s future bride.

Masterfully directed by Sergei Bodrov, this is truly an epic tale that was actually filmed in Mongolia, the movie features some brilliant acting by all involved. The story, cinematography truly lends itself well to this epic that showcases how barbaric these times may have been. Gripping from start to finish!
