In the footsteps of Alexander the Great

With the horrendous Hollywood flop “Alexander the Great”, it was only natural for distributors to get on the bandwagon and release their own special branding of the history of Alexander the Great and with that said, Michael Wood follows the path of this ancient Greek hero that is entitled “In the footsteps of Alexander the Great”.

Originally a PBS miniseries in the United States and a SBS documentary in Australia, host Michael Wood follows the path that Alexander took during his conquest, telling the story of his life along the way. Wood does a brilliant job at accurately portraying the life of Alexander the Great with references to leading Greek and Roman historians and also accurate settings in the modern world of where this ancient hero went.

Although some viewers may find Wood’s style of storytelling too in-depth and verbose, I beg to differ because he not only gives an accurate account as to the story of Alexander the Great but also breaks up the mythology by actually showing the current of history of today which is a nice blend of new and old.

The video quality of “In the footsteps of Alexander the Great” was originally filmed on tape and does contain some of the inconsistencies of this format but because of the perfect cinematography of Wood’s team, the viewer is soon drawn into this ancient world and forgets about all the errors of the video. The audio is extremely is clear and errorfree and match that with some great ambient music and sound effects and you have one well made documentary. A must have for documentary buffs!
