Heroic Age Collection 1

The world once was ruled by powerful beings called the Golden Tribe.  They encouraged the other tribes to explore the universe and the Silver, Bronze and Heroic Tribes heeded their call.  As the Golden Tribe was about to leave this universe for another, another tribe appeared - Humans (the Iron tribe).  The powerful Heroic tribe went on a planet conquering rampage but were overcome by their masters, the Gold tribe - reduced to five essences ( to serve inside five beings of the weaker tribes).  The Iron Tribe's Nodos (vessel) is called Age and he is the saviour of human kind. Only Age can save human kind from the rampaging Silver tribe and their underlings, the Bronze tribe.  And so begins Heroic Age's convoluted plot.

Heroic Age is very loosely based on a lot of greek mythology most notably the 12 Labors of the Nodos from the 12 Labors of Heracles.  This does not make Heroic Age more interesting.  The anime is rather slow moving and the humour I found to be weak.  The plot is rather predictable and the space combat repetitive.  The space combat consists of mechs, flying around with guns in their hands shooting robotic-looking insect-like creatures (sound familiar?) with the saviour, Age, transforming into his Heroic alter-ego, a huge hulk which can destroy thousands of these things by his power.  The characters, themselves, are not particularly likeable and are a bit shallow. Age's innocence and naivety though is refreshing but is the stereotypical uneducated primitive being brought into society. The animation is reasonable, although sometimes seems to jump jarringly into cell-shaded scenes which seems to break the flow and continuity of the episodes.  The special features includes a few trailers and songs.

Unfortunately, I must say that I was not a huge fan of Heroic Age.  I am usually a fan of huge mechs and space-based animes but I could not get into this anime.  It was too slow and predictable for the 13 episode investment.  I would not recommend this unless you are a huge anime buff.
