Elizabeth the Golden Age

Cate Blanchett effortlessly returns to the role of the monarch she originally portrayed in 1998's Elizabeth, in this historical film exploring the next stage of her life.

The plot explores Elizabeth's relationship with the dashing sea Captain Sir Walter Raleigh (Played by Clive Owen, who steals every scene he is in), amidst the Catholic uprising in England and the treat of invasion from Spain.

Shekhar Kapur's direction serves to highline the lush detail and craftsmanship of the set and costume design. This film, like most period pieces will appeal to history buffs and fans of decadent design.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age, is by no means a bad film but with a cast that includes Geoffrey Rush and Rhys Ifans it leaves a lot to be desired.
