Doctor Who Inferno

Another classic Doctor Who story is released on DVD that not only boasts a plethora of special features but also improved video and audio quality. Doctor Who Inferno stars Jon Pertwee as the Doctor who reigned during the years of 1970 to 1974 with the current story featuring more intrigue and space adventure than you can poke a stick at.

The story revolves around a secret project on Earth that is attempting to harness the power of the planet by drilling into the core. However when the Doctor hears about this new project, he is extremely concerned that this may be quite destructive towards the planet. As he investigates, both he and his companion Liz Shaw (Caroline John) are thrown into a parallel universe that creates a real dichotomy for our good Doctor, not to mention some truly powerful story concepts. It's great to see "darker" versions of Liz and the Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney)

I must admit that I love parallel stories and this alternate universe is quite the polar opposite of where the Doctor had just came from. Best of all, writer Don Houghton creates some great characterisation for not just Doctor but the supporting characters with some great action sequences. At times, the story does bog down with the metaphysical aspect of parallel universes but when the action heats up, so does the story. This collection features all 7 episodes of Inferno and is easily one of the best Doctor Who Pertwee stories.

Special Features

There's a ton of extras included in this release from insightful featurettes, commentary, interviews with key members of the Doctor Who Cast and some great behind the scenes to help get your Doctor Who fix. A special mention should be made about the video and audio quality that even though it is dated, has been considerably addressed from the original analog release.

Definitely a must have for fans of Doctor Who!
