Devil May Cry: The Animated Series Volume 1

Oozing with anime inspired cliché's and stereotypes, the Devil May Cry: The Animated Series Volume 1 is more or less your standard cartoon series from Japan, however with one western twist.

The twist is the premise behind the series which was inspired by the PlayStation 2 game, the Devil May Cry and follows the main character Dante through his everyday life and is a mercenary as opposed to the heroic godlike character from the game.

This DVD features the first four episodes of the series and sets down the ground rules for Dante and the supporting cast that not only pays homage to the video game but also gives fans of the character a completely new direction. With the introduction of "Patty" to the franchise, it seems that the creators attempted to give Dante a more human face and when it comes to the crunch, Dante is the classic anti-hero who uses guns and a whopping big sword to cut through an almost endless parade of demons. Thankfully, a number of supporting cast members from the game also make a welcome return to the world of animation.

The animation is pure anime with large eyed female characters who happen to wear seductive clothing, however the star of the series is the battle scenes that are at times inspired by the video game through it's almost ridiculous yet exciting nature.

With strong writing, an addictive plot, the Devil May Cry would not only appease most hardcore fans but also fans of anime.
