Coupling: the Complete Series
This fantastic
boxed set covers Coupling series 1 through 4 and is the tale of six
thirty somethings (Jack, Jane, Jeff, Steve, Sally & Susan) trying to
find their way in life and love. Some folks looking at the cover may
think the story is a variant on Friends but not entirely so. Coupling is
a genuine tale in it’s own right that is a great watch and something you
are sure to enjoy.
Series like this
only work through a great writing team and actors who really feel the
roles that they are in and that is what you will experience with
Coupling as the characters interact with each other, especially when you
take into account that this group comprises of people who have gone out
with each other and best friends!
One of the things I
loved about the series which was really an aside to the whole thing were
the unique terms that they used in it like squelchy which immediately
had me thinking “ewww”

The show deals with
the pursuit of sex and relationships and also the men trying to figure
out how women work which is pretty much a mission impossible as it is (I
don’t think we are ever really meant to figure them out!). It’s the
straight forward banter between the two genders the provides the most
laughter.
Series four saw the
most obvious amounts of turmoil with Jeff not being there most of the
time, replaced by Oliver who fit in with the group nicely. However in a
nice twist…. Ah I better not tell you, almost spoiled the surprise.
Ultimately even
though I have mentioned that Coupling is it’s own show you may find
yourself drawing similarities with Friends, the humour is very much
different and certainly more in your face than that great sitcom. This
six disc boxed set is wonderfully rounded out with a bevy of extras that
really tie it all in together nicely.
Coupling has a high
recommendation. In this age of “reality TV”, we don’t find ourselves
with a lot of great comedy other than through the DVD format so it’s
nice when a high quality one becomes available in it’s entirety.
It’s a great show
and as long as you are not a prude you will be laughing all the way
through it. So hint for Christmas or get it for yourself immediately.
