Brittas Empire (Series 3)

The Brittas Empire (Series 3) kicks off with our favourite bureaucrat Brittas (Chris Barrie) being accused of unspeakable murders and once again where Brittas is concerned, things go far from smoothly. From accusations of drug running, murder and even beheadings, Brittas somehow manages to wrangle his way out of this mess with some of the most obscure flashbacks to every grace a BBC series. With that said, the Brittas Empire (Series 3) contains six entertaining episodes that contain everything from witticism, sex and Freudian dreams.

What really makes this series stand out from the rest is the delightful Chris Barrie (Tomb Raider, Red Dwarf) who does a remarkable job at playing a snobby and pompos politician archetype who does everything he can to make things right but unfortunately go horribly wrong. The series also uses a variety of different humour styles that include black comedy, slapstick and down right political incorrect humour that somehow makes the charm of Brittas only grow on you more.

The video quality of the Brittas Empire (Series 3) is relatively clean but it is showing its age, considering the how old this comedy series but unfortunately quite a few people think that DVD is a format of perfection. As with the video, the audio quality supports Dolby Digital 2.0 that does a fine job at portraying the humour of this fine series.

In conclusion, the Brittas Empire (Series 3) is a great romp through the 1980’s that although is a little dated (comically and visually), is still a great series that I would recommend to all lovers of British comedy. With outstanding performances by Chris Barrie, Michael Burns, Pippa Haywood, Julia St. John, Richard Braine, Perry Fenwick, the Brittas Empire is one series that you should take home today.
