Fullmetal Alchemist 19

Written and drawn by Hiromu Arakawa, I was wrapped to discover that I had the chance of reviewing this amazing Manga series, especially after being a fan of the anime series.

As I was familiar with the characters from the anime, it was easy to pick up this series at volume 19 which features some clever story telling that uses flashbacks and the present. Steeped in some great mythology, this current book features a variety of different characters from this universe that include General Olivia, Edward, Major Miles and my favourite, Hoenhiem. The stories contain a variety of different aspects of good story telling that include intrigue, action, comedy and some amazingly drawn battles thanks to Arakawa.

Apart from the great story that includes some twisted and intricate plot twists, the art really draws you in and Arakawa has a knack of creating some realistic special effects in this 2D form. I must admit that the stories were actually better than the anime.

Although volume 19 contains a variety of different stories, I found the majority of them quite readable with only a couple a tad boring which seemed as fillers. Nevertheless, it was an action packed ride that now has me hooked on the series.

Bring on volume 20!
