Geoff Johns has been all about taking risks with this title. Giving Sinestro top billing was his most recent gamble, and it worked great for him; now, he's taking it one step further and shaking the house by replacing the lead ring bearer with a brand new face. This zero issue introduces Simon Baz to the world of Green Lantern, and from the get-go, the move is a success.

The New 52 has as a purpose appealing to new readership by using current themes, and few things define this generation as the events Johns uses in "The New Normal" to establish Simon's character. On top of all the cosmic dangers he has coming his way, he is also a subject to prejudice, such a base human flaw. On his first official appearance, and this new Green Lantern shows great story potential and staying power.
