The Secret Lives of Pippa Lee

This quirky romantic drama, based on the novel by Rebecca Miller revolves around Pippa Lee, played by the delightful and attractive Robin Wright who is married to a rather older man called Herb (Alan Arkin).

Unfortunately for Pippa, they have moved into a retirement village due to Herb suffering his third heart attack. This has ignited the sad realisation for Pippa that she may have squandered her life, more particularly her youth and from there, she begins to drift to her younger days.

To make matters worse for Pippa, her children treat her rather poorly but thankfully her sanity is kept in check through another kindred spirit, the son of her neighbour Chris, played by Keanu Reeves who could be considered the catalyst for her journey of rediscovery.

At its core, the Secret Lives of Pippa Lee is one women’s journey as we are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from her younger self, up until her current mature age which has caused Pippa to be quite guilt ridden and question where did she go wrong or did she even go wrong?

Joining Wright and Reeves, there are some very delightful performances by a plethora of great actors that include Winona Ryder, Mike Binder, Julianne Moore, Zoe Kazan and the timeless beauty Monica Bellucci. Together, they create a very delightful drama that proves Hollywood can still make some gems.

On Blu-ray, the video and audio quality looks impressive and for special features, there are some interesting cast and crew interviews about the making of the film and the original theatrical trailer. Some more features would have been nice, such as commentary by director/writer Rebecca Miller.

Special Features:
  • Cast and crew interviews
  • Theatrical trailer
