Explore stories from Victoria\u2019s East Timorese community and join in traditional activities.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>School holiday activities include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weaving: The Shape of Tais to Come<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Learn about the tradition of weaving <em>Tais<\/em>, an important part of East Timorese culture. <em>Tais <\/em>are used as a valuable item to exchange or in rituals. Join in and weave your own <em>Tais<\/em> to take home and use different colours of ribbon to create your own special pattern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time: <\/strong>Daily<strong> <\/strong>10am \u2013 5pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Booking:<\/strong> not required<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> FREE for children<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>East Timor Kites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make your own traditional kite using recycled materials and decorate it using an East Timorese pattern or create a design of your own. Take your kite outside to the Tribute Garden to see how it flies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time: <\/strong>Daily<strong> <\/strong>10am \u2013 5pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Booking:<\/strong> not required<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> FREE for children<\/p>\n<p><strong>Story Time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Listen to stories from around the world in our storytelling area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time: <\/strong>Monday to Friday 11.30am and 1.30pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Booking:<\/strong> not required<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>FREE for children<\/p>\n<p>Exhibition:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visit the exhibition <em>Honouring our Ancestors: Remembering <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Timor Leste<\/em><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This exhibition explores a ritual called <em>Se Matebian<\/em>, which takes place each year on All Souls Day and honours East Timorese ancestors. It looks at how the East Timorese community in Australia continue to practise this ritual today. Personal stories and reflections of people from the East Timorese community are shared and featured objects include a silver breast plate and head piece worn by elders during ceremonial peace, a silver jewellery box with an ancestral worship home on top, jewellery associated with ancestors, timber statues representing ancestors, hand woven baskets and East Timorese fabrics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> From 19 September 2010<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Immigration Museum is now taking group bookings for school holiday groups for a fun morning or afternoon.
