Chris Rock: Kill The Messeng<\/em><\/strong>er<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>will feature footage from three different performances, at South Africa\u2019s Carnival City Casino, New York\u2019s legendary Apollo Theatre and the Carling Apollo Hammersmith in London.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to do the type of stand-up special that I\u2019ve never seen before, and the<\/p>\n

only place that I could see doing that is at HBO,\u201d says Rock. \u201cI love HBO because they want to take chances.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is certainly a fun challenge doing something radical with an artist of the<\/p>\n

magnitude and talent of Chris Rock,\u201d observes Marty Callner, who is directing the special, and executive producing along with Rock. \u201cOf course, it shouldn\u2019t be a surprise when you blend a brave artist with a brave network.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rock recently set a Guinness World Record on The No Apologies Tour by playing<\/p>\n

to crowds of 15,900 at Greenwich\u2019s O2 venue, marking the largest audience for a stand-up comedy performance in British history.<\/p>\n

Time <\/em>magazine, <\/em>which previously called Rock \u201cThe funniest man in America,\u201d also named him one of the \u201c100 Most Influential People In The World\u201d. The New York Times <\/em>has described Rock as \u201cprobably the funniest and smartest comedian working today,\u201d while The Washington Post <\/em>championed him as \u201ca brilliant comic, a cheering presence, a humble star,\u201d noting that \u201chis comedy is full of intelligence, impudence and take-no-prisoners social comment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The multitalented Rock has won three Emmys\u00ae and three Grammys, and recently<\/p>\n

starred on the big screen in \u201cI Think I Love My Wife,\u201d as well as contributing his voice to the animated hits \u201cBee Movie\u201d and \u201cMadagascar.\u201d Chris Rock: Kill The Messeng<\/em><\/strong>er<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>follows four other HBO specials, including 2004\u2019s Emmy\u00ae-nominated \u201cNever Scared,\u201d 2000\u2019s Emmy\u00ae-nominated \u201cBigger & Blacker,\u201d the groundbreaking 1996 Emmy\u00ae winner \u201cBring the Pain\u201d and 1994\u2019s CableACE winner \u201cBig Ass Jokes.\u201d His Emmy\u00ae-winning HBO late-night talk show \u201cThe Chris Rock Show\u201d ran for four seasons and garnered critical raves. In 2005, Rock created the critically acclaimed CW series \u201cEverybody Hates Chris,\u201d which is based on his childhood experiences. The series is narrated by Rock, who also executive produces.<\/p>\n

Chris Rock burst onto the scene in 1989, spending three years as a cast member<\/p>\n

of \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d In addition to \u201cI Think I Love My Wife,\u201d Rock has starred in such films as \u201cHead of State,\u201d which marked his directorial debut, \u201cThe Longest Yard,\u201d \u201cBad Company,\u201d with Anthony Hopkins, \u201cDown to Earth,\u201d \u201cNurse Betty,\u201d with Morgan Freeman, \u201cDogma,\u201d directed by Kevin Smith, \u201cBoomerang,\u201d \u201cPanther,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m Gonna Git You Sucka!\u201d and \u201cNew Jack City,\u201d and he wrote, produced and starred in \u201cCB4.\u201d Rock was an executive producer of \u201cThe Hughleys,\u201d which ran for five years and is now in syndication. In addition, his 1997 book \u201cRock This\u201d was a New York Times <\/em>best seller.<\/p>\n
