Sydney<\/strong>, 5 September 2008<\/strong> \u2013 Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) today announced that SingStar\u00ae, the karaoke-inspired game exclusive to PlayStation\u00ae, has joined forces with the Cancer Council\u2019s Girls Night In for the second year running, to help raise funds for the research and prevention of women\u2019s cancers. SCE Aust. will support the Cancer Council with a co-marketing strategy to increase awareness of the initiative and assist in broadening the reach of Girls Night In to an even larger audience.<\/p>\n

This October, women from around the country will be called upon to host their own girls\u2019 night in, whereby guests are asked to donate the money they would have spent on a \u2018night out\u2019 to the Cancer Council. Girls Night In is a fun and simple way to play a role in the quest to defeat women\u2019s cancers, whilst also providing an opportunity to celebrate valued friendships.<\/p>\n

Kendall Bascetta, Software Product Manager at SCE Aust. commented, \u201cSingStar is a social gaming phenomenon that has found a place in well over half a million Australian homes. With such a strong following, SingStar epitomises the sense of fun and community that Girls Night In is all about.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the success of the partnership in 2007, we have significantly increased our support this year by directly contributing to the funding of the marketing campaign, with the aim to help Girls Night In continue to grow. Additionally, we are working with our retailers to promote Girls Night In registration in their catalogues and a small donation will be made for SingStar products purchased throughout October.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bringing together friends and families, SingStar has become an essential component of a great night in for many women (and men!) across the country. Now, all the SingStar fun can be enjoyed on both PlayStation\u00ae2 and PLAYSTATION\u00ae3 (PS3\u2122), with SingStar for PS3 offering even more customisable and interactive online options for fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeedback from Girls Night In participants last year indicated that SingStar was a popular activity at girls\u2019 night in events. Since 2005, over 12,000 Girls Night In events have been held which have raised over $7 million. The funds raised from Girls Night In are channelled into vital women\u2019s cancer projects including research, support services and prevention programs.<\/p>\n
