THE 98TH<\/sup> ANNIVERSARY OF THE SINKING OF THE TITANIC<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

On April 15, 1912 RMS Titanic<\/em> sank to the bottom of the Atlantic, taking with her more than 1500 souls from the 2223 on board.\u00a0 98 years on Australians have their first opportunity to experience the tragedy and romance of the famous ship firsthand in the form of Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition<\/strong> at Melbourne Museum from May 14 to October 17, 2010.<\/p>\n

Seen by more than 22 million worldwide to date, this will be the exhibition\u2019s first ever visit to Australia, with tickets on sale from 9am this Thursday 15 April.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The exhibition will feature more than 280 original artefacts salvaged from the Titanic<\/em>\u2019s debris field at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean as well as impressive to scale reproductions of parts of the ship, including the famous Grand Staircase, First Class and Third Class Cabins, the Boiler Room and a Third Class Hallway.\u00a0 An ice wall will allow visitors the chance to experience the freezing below zero temperatures that led to the deaths of so many.<\/p>\n

As they enter the exhibition, each visitor is presented with a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger, drawing them back in time to 1912 and the ship\u2019s fateful maiden voyage.\u00a0 Then begins a journey through the life of the Titanic<\/em>, from construction to life on board, to its ill-fated voyage, tragic sinking and the amazing efforts to recover artefacts.\u00a0 Along the way visitors will marvel at the full-size recreation of the ship\u2019s Grand Staircase, and learn countless stories of heroism and humanity.<\/p>\n
