{"id":4603,"date":"2010-01-20T06:55:49","date_gmt":"2010-01-19T20:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/power-up.space\/?p=4603"},"modified":"2010-01-20T06:55:49","modified_gmt":"2010-01-19T20:55:49","slug":"gothic-fairytales-marionettes-and-sign-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.impulsegamer.com\/wordpress\/?p=4603","title":{"rendered":"Gothic fairytales, marionettes and sign language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gothic fairytales, marionettes and sign language<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the tradition of Harry Potter, <em>The Grimstones &#8211; \u00a0Hatched<\/em> is a gothic fairytale told with giant books, exquisite old-world marionettes and sign language, to be\u00a0 performed at the Arts Centre on 13 and 14 February. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Acclaimed both in Australia and internationally, <strong><em>The Grimstones<\/em> &#8211; <\/strong><strong><em>Hatched<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>celebrates the wonder of books, the acceptance\u00a0of difference, family love and the simple pleasures in life.\u00a0 Created by Asphyxia, it is part of <strong>Kids at the Arts Centre<\/strong>, a new year round program for children aged 3 \u2013 12 and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><em>The Grimstones \u2013 Hatched <\/em><\/strong>speaks beautifully to older children with imagination and love of mystery,\u201d says Emer Harrington, Program Manager for Families. \u201cIt\u2019s a very moving story that parents will love too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Grimstones \u2013 Hatched<\/em><\/strong> will be followed by an Auslan sign singing workshop, performed by Asphyxia and her interpreter Paula Dowse.<\/p>\n<p>Asphyxia is a deaf circus performer turned puppeteer. She has toured nationally and internationally over the past decade with her performing arts company, Sky Works. Asphyxia has a background in ballet, and has trained with Circus Oz and the National Institute of Circus Art, specialising in trapeze, adagio (double balance) and hula hoops. Her theatre shows, including <em>Blood Makes Noise<\/em>, have performed sell out seasons in Melbourne, Sydney and the USA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LISTINGS DETAILS<em><br \/>\nThe Grimstones \u2013 Hatched<\/em><\/strong> is a gothic fairytale told with giant books, exquisite old-world marionettes and sign language. There\u2019s a girl who reads dreams, a mother who sews garments lined with love and warmth, a grandfather who heals people with his magical concoctions and a baby boy with three legs.<\/p>\n<p>Designed and created by Asphyxia.
