From the director of the Oscar winning blockbuster Titanic<\/em>, James Cameron\u2019s latest groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece, Avatar<\/a><\/em>, is set to hit Australia\u2019s largest 3D screen at IMAX Melbourne Museum<\/a> on December 17, 2009.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

James Cameron first conceived Avatar<\/a> <\/em>fourteen years ago when the technical means to fully realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar<\/a> <\/em>delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience in which the revolutionary technology created to make the film merges with the emotion and the sweep of the story itself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The star of Avatar<\/a><\/em>, Australian Sam Worthington, described Cameron\u2019s creative direction for the movie as simply, \u201cIt\u2019s built for IMAX. It\u2019s built for 3D. That\u2019s what he\u2019s designed it for<\/a><\/em>.\u201d Cameron\u2019s Avatar Day on August 21, 2009, gave lucky IMAX fans around the world the <\/em>opportunity to be amongst the first to witness 15 minutes of select footage from Avatar<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Avatar<\/a><\/em> <\/em>takes movie goers to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a battle to save a civilization.<\/p>\n

In Avatar<\/a><\/em>, we enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. But despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart. He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving the Earth’s energy crisis. Because the atmosphere on Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar program, in which human ‘drivers’ have their consciousness linked to an Avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These Avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora – the Na’vi.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reborn in his Avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan, and learns to become one of them. As Jake’s relationship with the reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of the entire world.\u00a0<\/p>\n
