Join 80 teams of students from around Australia and the world as they race their model boats and cars to see who is the \u2018fastest under the Sun\u2019. This event encourages young people to explore the potential of solar energy through the construction of working models and boasts some of the finest achievements in technology and science by school children.<\/p>\n

Going Places:<\/strong> The Technology of Transport<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pilot an airship through sky hoops, ride the hovercraft and land a plane on the flight simulator. Find out how travel has shaped society and put yourself to the test with a multitude of transport challenges. With more than 20<\/p>\n

hands-on exhibits, Going Places<\/em>\u00a0is a wild ride. This unique exhibition explores the way mankind has developed new transport technology to overcome gravity, distance and the division of continents to move us around the globe.<\/p>\n

Toys: Science at Play<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

This popular interactive exhibition returns to Scienceworks and includes robots, dolls, hula hoops, building blocks, toy timelines and kaleidoscopes.\u00a0Toys<\/em> provides plenty of opportunities for all ages with enquiring minds to tinker with toys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Explore the wonders of flight this summer as part of Scienceworks\u2019 summer school holiday program, Up up and away<\/em>. <\/strong>Learn all about how we lift ourselves off the ground in \u2018Winging It\u2019, a live science show all about flight, then make your own flying object to take home in the \u2018Designer Glider\u2019 activity.<\/p>\n

Harrison Refrigerator Model<\/strong><\/p>\n

Come and see a model of the first successful industrial refrigerator (1857) developed by James Harrison of Geelong. An internationally significant invention, the refrigerator was used in breweries, hotels and distilleries throughout Britain, Europe, South America and Australia. This model was displayed at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, United States of America, from 1964 to 2002 and is now on show at Scienceworks.<\/p>\n

EPA Victoria Calendar Competition Display <\/strong><\/p>\n

Mini Car 50th Anniversary Display <\/strong><\/p>\n

Celebrate the Mini\u2019s 50th<\/sup> anniversary and see Museum Victoria\u2019s own 1964 998cc Morris Mini Cooper. This Mini was purchased by Museum Victoria in 1984 with 40,000 miles on the odometer. The revolutionary design and sales success of the Mini provided the impetus for the development of the modern small car and became a design icon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
