{"id":31473,"date":"2013-09-20T17:06:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T07:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/power-up.space\/?p=31473"},"modified":"2013-09-20T17:06:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T07:06:59","slug":"metro-last-light-developer-4a-games-recreates-fan-designed-weapon-multi-barreled-bicycle-shotgun-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.impulsegamer.com\/wordpress\/?p=31473","title":{"rendered":"Metro: Last Light developer 4A Games recreates fan designed weapon, the Multi-barreled Bicycle Shotgun, in-game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Sydney, Australia \u2013 September 20, 2013 \u2013<\/i><\/b> Alexandre Bannwarth, a 1<sup>st<\/sup> year design student at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand saw his dream weapon design for \u2018Metro: Last Light\u2019 become (virtual) reality when Ukrainian developer 4A Games offered to build his creation in-game.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the novels by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the critically acclaimed video game \u2018Metro: Last Light\u2019 is set in a bleak post-apocalypse, where the remnants of mankind struggle to survive in the Moscow Metro \u2013 the largest nuclear bunker in the world.<\/p>\n<p>With modern technologies lost forever, these survivors have learned to fashion crude, hand-made weaponry scavenged together from scrap metal and spare parts.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by 4A\u2019s incredible designs, Alexandre submitted his own &#8211; the \u2018Multi-barreled Bicycle Shotgun\u2019 &#8211; in a \u2018Design a Weapon\u2019 competition run by gaming website GamePlanet.co.nz.<\/p>\n<p>His winning design caught the eye of 4A Games, as did the competition judges\u2019 tongue-in-cheek verdict \u2013 \u201cIt will be scandalous if 4A Games doesn\u2019t release it as DLC (downloadable content) for the game\u2026\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Never one to shirk a challenge, 4A Games\u2019 team of weapon designers, led by Andre \u2018Prof\u2019 Prokhorov (an engineer by training who personally designed most of Metro: Last Light\u2019s unique handmade arsenal) have, with Alexandre\u2019s permission, done exactly that.<\/p>\n<p>The unique \u2018Multi Barreled Bicycle Shotgun\u2019 is made from reclaimed bicycle parts and, like all of Metro\u2019s handmade weapons, is based on sound mechanical principles that mean it could conceivably function in the \u2018real\u2019 world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we saw Alexandre\u2019s winning design, and GamePlanet\u2019s mock challenge to 4A Games we knew we had to try and make this happen,\u201d said Huw Beynon, Global Brand Manager for Metro: Last Light at Deep Silver, the game\u2019s publisher. \u201c4A Games spent many hours making this design a reality, with all the care and dedication they afforded their own designs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Alexandre&#8217;s concept for the Bicycle Shotgun was the perfect blueprint for our weapon designers.&#8221; said Andrew Prokhorov, Creative Director and co-founder at 4A Games. &#8220;When we first saw his design, we immediately saw the potential &#8211; it is a fitting addition to the Metro arsenal, and the team enjoyed the challenge of bringing it to life it in-game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Multi Barreled Bicycle Shotgun appears in the latest DLC pack for Metro: Last Light, the aptly named \u2018Developer Pack\u2019, available to download now.<\/p>\n<p>For the full story on how Alexandre\u2019s design became reality, including his own design notes and work-in-progress images taken from 4A\u2019s development process, visit GamePlanet.co.nz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sydney, Australia \u2013 September 20, 2013 \u2013 Alexandre Bannwarth, a 1st year design student at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand saw his dream weapon design for \u2018Metro: Last Light\u2019 become (virtual) reality when Ukrainian developer 4A Games offered to build his creation in-game.
