\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that <\/em><\/strong>Game Masters is about as good as an exhibition of videogames could presently hope to be. It is among the best\u2014if not the best\u2014of its kind.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>Crikey<\/p>\n

ACMI\u2019s highly interactive videogames exhibition, Game Masters<\/em>, is set to close on Sunday 28 October. Coinciding with ACMI\u2019s 10th<\/sup> Birthday weekend, Game Masters<\/em> tickets will be $10 for the final ten days of the exhibition, Friday 19 to Sunday 28 October, to celebrate the milestone.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibition showcases the work of leading local and international videogame designers with over 125 playable games from the arcade era through to the latest console and mobile game technology.<\/p>\n

Over 30 game designers who have made a significant and ongoing impact in the field are profiled throughout the exhibition, including well-known international, independent and Australian game designers. The designers\u2019 work is explored through a combination of rare concept artwork, newly commissioned interviews and playable games.<\/p>\n

The ACMI-curated exhibition includes a selection of classic arcade games from the 1970s and 80s acquired especially for the exhibition and playable in their original form. The arcades spotlight the pioneering designers of the era, such as the creators of Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Asteroids <\/em>and Defender. Game Masters<\/em> celebrates leading contemporary designers such as those behind Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em>, Super Mario Bros<\/em>, <\/em>The Legend of Zelda<\/em>, METAL GEAR<\/em> SOLID, Psychonauts<\/em>, World of Warcraft<\/em>, SimCity, Populous <\/em>and <\/em>Disney\u2019s Epic Mickey. <\/em>Independent designers are featured too, with games such as PaRappa the Rapper, Minecraft, Machinarium, Braid, Flight Control<\/em>, Fruit Ninja <\/em>and Angry Birds <\/em>on display in the gallery.<\/p>\n

A major component of the show is a social gaming area which includes popular music titles such as SingStar<\/em>, Rock Band <\/em>and a spectacular multiplayer dance stage for a large-scale version of Dance Central 2<\/em>, as well as unique experiences such as an immersive 3D version of Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s acclaimed\u00a0Child of Eden<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition will travel to New Zealand and opens at Wellington\u2019s Te Papa in December.<\/p>\n
