Explore the history and cultural significance of sweet food and find out how sweetness is important to everyone. Different cultures use sweets for many reasons and purposes \u2013 to mark important rituals, celebrations and life events. Discover special sweet foods from each of the Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mauritian and Turkish cultures, the ways in which many of them are made and the significance they hold. Explore fascinating shared and unique traditions, rituals and contemporary practices surrounding sweet cuisines and refreshments. Enjoy a feast of toothsome food stalls, cooking demonstrations, films, workshops and displays.<br \/>\nPart of the 2012 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival<br \/>\n<strong>Date:<\/strong> 11am to 4pm, Sunday 18 March 2012<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"836\"><strong>Another Country with Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Filipino-born, Brisbane-based artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan touchdown in Melbourne to create <em>Another Country<\/em> \u2013 a series of projects done in partnership with the Immigration Museum.\u00a0The series explores ideas of journeys, migration and memory, as well as the life and meaning of everyday objects kept and cherished or discarded and forgotten over time.\u00a0Projects include:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In-Flight <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Construct a miniature aeroplane from a huge selection of recycled materials and contribute to an ever-expanding installation created by the artists. The planes will pile up, take off and soar over the second floor of the Immigration Museum, referencing a transitional place of leave-taking and homecoming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>Until to 31 January 2012<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In-Habit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dwell on what makes the perfect home and create your vision using recycled boxes, cardboard and tape during a workshop with Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan. Work as an individual or as a family to construct your house and contribute to our growing community installation in the Immigration Museum or our virtual community online.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> 2pm \u2013 4pm, 16 to 20 January 2012<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In-Transit <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Explore evocative displays created by families and Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan that delve into family stories of migration.
