SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 15, 2011<\/strong> \u2013 Heidi Klum has replaced Cameron Diaz as the most dangerous celebrity to search for on the Web, according to Internet security company McAfee<\/a> (NASDAQ:INTC).\u00a0 For the fifth year in a row, McAfee researched popular culture\u2019s most famous people to reveal the riskiest celebrity athletes, musicians, politicians, comedians and Hollywood stars on the Web.\u00a0 The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities\u2122<\/a> study found movie stars and models top the \u201cmost dangerous\u201d list this year, while singers and sports stars are among the safest.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software. Anyone looking for the latest videos or pictures could end up with a malware-ridden computer instead of just trendy content.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWhile slightly safer than last year, searching for top celebrities continues to generate risky results,\u201d said Paula Greve, director of Web security research at McAfee.\u00a0 \u201cConsumers should be particularly aware of malicious content hiding in \u2018tiny\u2019 places like shortened URLs that can spread virally in social networking sites, or through e-mails and text messages from friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heidi Klum Searches Yield Nearly a One-in-Ten Chance of Landing on a Malicious Site<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fans searching for \u201cHeidi Klum and downloads,\u201d \u201cHeidi Klum and \u2018free\u2019 downloads,\u201d \u201cHeidi Klum and screensavers,\u201d \u201cHeidi Klum and hot pictures\u201d and \u201cHeidi Klum and videos\u201d are at risk of running into online threats designed to steal personal information. Clicking on these risky sites and downloading files like photos, videos or screensavers exposes surfers or consumers to the risk of downloading viruses and malware.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 McAfee research found that searching for the latest Heidi Klum pictures and downloads yields more than a nine per cent chance of landing on a website that has tested positive for online threats, such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses and other malware.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The study uses McAfee\u00ae SiteAdvisor\u00ae site ratings, which indicate which sites are risky to search for celebrity names on the Web and calculate an overall risk percentage.\u00a0 The top 10 celebrities from this year\u2019s study with the highest percentages of risk are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

3<\/td>\nPiers Morgan<\/strong> \u2013 A new addition to the top ten list, Morgan is also the most dangerous male celebrity.\u00a0 He is best known as the host of \u201cPiers Morgan Tonight,\u201d taking over for Larry King, a winner of the \u201cCelebrity Apprentice,\u201d and one of the judges on \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4<\/td>\nJessica Biel<\/strong> \u2013 2009\u2019s Most Dangerous Celebrity fell one more spot this year with searches resulting in fewer risky sites. Biel continues to be in the spotlight with her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Timberlake, and her appearance in \u201cThe A-Team\u201d in June 2010.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5<\/td>\nKatherine Heigl<\/strong> \u2013 The former \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d star moved into the top ten for the first time this year.\u00a0 Heigl has appeared in recent movies such as \u201cKillers\u201d and \u201cLife as We Know It.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
6<\/td>\nMila Kunis<\/strong> \u2013 The former star of \u201cThat 70s Show\u201d makes her first showing in the top ten, bolstered by starring in movies such as \u201cBlack Swan\u201d and \u201cFriends with Benefits.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

9<\/td>\nScarlett Johansson<\/strong> \u2013 The former child star has gotten more dangerous as she\u2019s grown up.\u00a0 Named in 2010, as \u201cBabe of The Year\u201d by GQ Magazine, Johansson most recently appeared in \u201cIron Man 2.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
10<\/td>\nEmma Stone, Brad Pitt and Rachel McAdams<\/strong> \u2013 Pitt has been a mainstay of this list, appearing in the top ten for the past four years.\u00a0 Stone and McAdams are new to the top ten.\u00a0 Stone, the star of last year\u2019s \u201cEasy A\u201d has appeared in \u201cThe Help\u201d and \u201cCrazy Stupid Love\u201d this year.\u00a0 McAdams has most recently appeared in \u201cMorning Glory\u201d and \u201cMidnight in Paris.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Sports Stars and Singers are Safer<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, who came in at No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, last year have dropped to No. 44 and No. 56 on this year\u2019s list. Singer Justin Bieber was No. 49 this year, followed by Rihanna and Carrie Underwood who were tied at No. 51, and Lady Gaga was No. 58.<\/p>\n

Headlines Don\u2019t Equate to Risk <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This year actor Charlie Sheen made headlines with his highly public departure from \u201cTwo and a Half Men\u201d and his one-man roadshow, among other things. Despite the publicity, however, Sheen is not be classified as a \u201cdangerous\u201d celebrity. Sheen ranked No. 59 on this year\u2019s list, with less than three per cent of searches yielding risky results.\u00a0 Lindsay Lohan, another tabloid favorite, ranked No. 18 on this year\u2019s list, tied with Gwen Stefani and Reese Witherspoon.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHot movies and TV shows, awards and industry accolades seem to be more of a factor than headline-grabbing activity,\u201d said Greve. \u201cStill, searching for any celebrity can bring up risky sites and the public should use caution by not clicking on any page that looks suspicious.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
